Bare Root Season
July and August is our "bare root season". This is the only time of year we can offer such a large variety of trees in this convenient form.
Bare Root means exactly that. The trees have been grown in soil and are lifted out when they became dormant. We heel them in to soil at the nursery when they arrive. For the winter only, you can purchase them without any soil or potting mix attached to the root system.
When a tree is chose by a customer we dig it and wrap it's root system in moist straw and plastic.
This method of sale has many advantages. A number of trees can be dug and wrapped in the one bundle, for example, so they are much easier to transport home. We offer a large selection all at 20% less than the potted price.
If you have a special spot in your garden for Roses, Fruit trees or a beautiful ornamental tree then now is the time of year you have the greatest choice and excellent quality at Bare root prices.
By September (if they are not all gone) they will have to all be potted into containers and more expensive, so get in quick!
Further information on the trees we carry can be found on the Flemings website (link located on home page).
